Thanks for stopping by Gerlach Motorsports
The 2005 season season is over, and were getting ready for 2006. Looking back it was'nt that bad a year
but should have been better. We won a few races locally, then started traveling a bit, to the IHRA Pro Am
Top Dragster races. With gas prices, a broken rod, and a broken set of planetarys, hitting the wallet, I was
ready to just stay home and race locally. but we decided to try the Pro Am at Beaver Springs PA. We decided
if we went out early here we'll forget about the Pro Am stuff. Racing at the foot of those mountains really
was beautiful and the people were really nice. I even met Beaver Bob. The problem was with the asphalt. The
amount it took to get there, 2 hours longer than I had thought. And the asphalt on the race track or at least
I think it may have, or at one time may have been asphalt. Let me just say if anyone ever hears me say any-
thing bad about a rough track, remind me of Beaver Springs and I'll shut up. It was hot, and slow, the car
had little chance of being consistant. My lites were up and down, but we were there and we still had to dial
for first round. I don't ever remember going racing and not caring if I won the round or not. I was on the
brakes and or the over-ride every pass right up to the finals. Where Bob Kauffman gave me the win light.
We came back to Kanawha Valley and racked up 27 round wins with 3 losses, which put us at the top of the Summit
Super Series points standings. Where we ended up finishing No.1 in the nation.Which in its own right is pretty
good, I guess, or it was in 02, 03 and 04, when it paid well over $50,000.00 Now it means you and 7 other people
go to Rockingham and race for it. Oh well I knew that going in. So we went to the Rock, twice. Due to rain. We
had a great time, and the car was close to perfect. Ran a 7.77 best ever E.T. and made it to semi finals. where
I had the box set on .007 to .010 light, and dialed it up one to a 7.78, not wanting to give up much of anything.
Well I had a .014 light and ran dead-on 7.787 Bob Pearson had .003 lite and 9.973 on a 9.96.
Congratulations to Bob and eventual winner and World Champion, J.J. Brock.
As far as the Top Dragster racing goes the win at Beaver
Springs put us in the lead of that points chase also. This meant we were in for the long haul. With it came the
trip to Virginia Motorsports Park. It looked like if we could get 4 rounds we would have a good chance of winning
the IHRA Championship. Thanks to Jim Bersani and my inability to get my foot on the brake .002 sooner to guarantee
It was a fun race though. Jim said he knew he missed the bulb so he was on his over-ride. I felt I hit the bulb good
(.012) but he was right there at the finish, I got on my over-ride, he dumped it, I dumped it, I crossed first but
broke out .001 more than he did. just close racin The 2006 season I hope will be just as successful,Or more.
We are looking forward to running with the good folks of IHRA in Top Dragster, hitting more of the big dollar bracket
races, and hitting Kanawha Valley Dragways Big Bucks races, the first Fri - Sat. of every month and with the Summit
Series program again.
Hope to see ya at the races.
