IHRA Division 3 Holley
Sportsman Championship Series at Kanawha Valley Dragway
Took off work Friday and went
racing, good thing too because if I would have waited until Sat. I
would'nt have been able to get in the place. It was packed and rigs
were still coming in on late Sat.
Got beat in Friday nite
bracket race 4th rnd.by Mooch Parkins. .509 lite and .02 off my dial.
Mooch went on to win. so congratulations to him, he was on all nite.
Saturdays regular bracket race I went out 3rd rnd. I hate to tell
this, but I forgot to put my gas cap on and sloshed fuel out under
one tire got sideways and lost of course. spent half the night
looking for gas cap. Racing was'nt over until about 1:00 am, so with
no time to go home. I slept in the truck. Gates opened at 8:00am
Sunday. After the church service, we got 1 time trial and went racing
again. Had 00 lights in time trial and first 3 rounds. and the car
was running pretty close, on the brakes a couple passes. Just about
messed up in the 4th, caught myself holding hard on the button and
had a .524 light, luckily the guy red lighted. Unluckily I nailed the
brakes because he lifted and I did'nt see my win light for the sun.
I was getting shuffled from
lane to lane and did'nt really know for sure how much difference
their was in the lanes. Luck seemed to strike again because I got the
bye run. but only because I was the last of 3 cars still in that
had'nt already had one. But it seemed lucky. so I'll take it. I
waited to see who won and took the other lane, I figured the car
would go a 5.10 but put a 5.06 on it, added a couple hundreths to the
box and presto, I look like a duck a 5.094 on a 5.06 and a .530
light. I dont like to waste a good package on a bye run. Well here we
are in the finals. Running a guy named Barcol in a 4.70 dragster, he
had just ran dead on in the semis. I figure I had better leave myself
a little room so I put a 5.08 dial on it. took .015 back out of the
box. should be good for a .515 light.
I leave the line thinking
I've cut a good light, at half track I can see him gaining on me, at
500 ft I'm thinking I might be able to get out of it a little, at the
mph cone he's right there. In the last 30ft or so at 130 mph, theres
a hundred what do I dos going through my head. Whos out front? I dump
him and give him the finish
line.....................................................................My
win light pops on.
He crossed .016 ahead of me.
with a .585 light and broke out 4.64 on a 4.70 to my .517 and a 5.11
on a 5.08 Oh what a feeling

Rained
out at Kanawha Valley
5-30-01
We loaded up and went to
Rockingham for the Millenium Million Race over Memorial weekend. Dad,
Kenny and myself along with Ray Livingston and Chuck Sanders. We all
won a little money (not enough to brag about) and had a real good
time. I would have to say it was one of the best races I have ever
gone to. I liked everything about it, except the rain on Monday. Just
wish it was about 400 miles closer.
There has been alot of talk
about people cheating at these races, and maybe there is, but you
could'nt prove it by me. Malinda Bertozzi and Scotty Richardson got
tore down and they found nothing. Here is my take on it. Rockingham
is a very good track, It was pretty easy to have a good package. My
dragster ran more consistent than it ever has. The 60fts varied .012
all weekend, with sea level ETs staying within .026. with 7 passes
within .006 and Rays dragster was just as good. The only time I had
to change my delay box was when the sun went down. ( wish I had that
pass back) The Bertozzi's, Richardsons and Jones's of drag racing
have made a bunch of passes down Rockinghams track,or other good
tracks and I'm sure they keep good log books or just know better than
myself what to do with their boxes and or dial-ins.
What I am saying is I can
blame my losing on a couple of wrong decisions. A red light and a
5.08 dial instead of a 5.09. (Had a 5.09 on it in the staging lanes
and changed my mind at the last minute.)
I feel any one of the three
of us could have won down there. We'll be back next year, with a
little more knowledge and our log books of course. I'd recommend
anyone to go to this race.
3 31 01 Well
Kanawha Valley Dragway opened up this weekend with a Test / Tune and
things are off to the typical slow start, for me anyways. I've got
some bugs to work out on the new dragster, mostly tires I think. I
never even got down the track, shaking the tires pretty hard about 120ft.
Have to wait till next week to
find out. Not much changes at the track. Schedule has changed a bit
looks like there's less bigger money races scheduled, They've dropped
the Quick 8 Street cars, The IHRA race has moved to June 8th. I don't
know what happened to the High School class, if it was dropped or
just not calling Thurs night high school night anymore If anyone has
any info let me know.
4-07-01 1st race of the season and it seems like things are going to be OK. I put a few more screws in the tires, more air pressure, and done a high gear burnout and Im sure the track came around a little more. but first pass was straight and pretty fast 5.23 132mph done a little more tinkering and went a 5.17 133mph. The delay box was doing everything I ask it to,and the thing was more consistent than I had ever thought it would be. I ended up beating Jonathon Clay in the finals in his brand new Bos dragster. Both of us skated around a little down track and ran off a bit. Jonathon dialed 4.97 ran 5.00 w .516 bulb. I dialed 5.15 ran 5.17 w/ .506 bulb.
4-15-01 Its another week and car is still doing good. The air was a little better and I had the thing dialed a 5.13 at one time, and should have ran it but I lifted a few passes. Ended up dialing up a number in the quarters because the track seems to be slipping off a little when less cars are ran on it. and it did, I ran Charlie Brown in the semis ( and the1st round he was a Buy Back ) had a .514 light and ran a 5.158 on a 5.14 dial. He had a .504 ran a 5.708 on a 5.68. margin of victory was .000. Oh well 3rds Ok I guess. Congratulations to Charlie for winning and Chuck Sanders for 2nd place. Margin of victory in that one was .000 also. It was a good race the only one Chuck had for the day. He was struggling with the car all day, changing parts between each round and finally found the distributor was loose.and got it fixed about 5th round. but he had 4 red lights against him, 1 guy had a really bad light then he got the bye run into the finals. Just goes to show, you never know and you cant give up.

Have you ever tried to find something that
takes the black streaks off the aluminum sides of your trailer? I've
tried about everthing, cleaners, waxes etc.Seems like the only thing
that worked good was bird crap. (What do those things eat?) |

you would like more info E-mail me. Im no expert but I'll try to
help. There is alot of other sites that do the same thing. search
for: free web space.
also your
internet provider usually gives you some free space most around 20

Word has it that Bader Jr. has sent out 12
certified letters to those who he knows were using
the computer and told them that their patronage
was no longer welcomed at NRP. One won the bracket finals this
year, and another won ten grand race atNRP One has his whole operation
(motor home racecar & trailer) up for sale. Supposedly Mattie
sold 29 of these, mostly in Ohio, but not all of them? some in no box cars.
Also,I've heard that Prolong may be
pulling out of the 10K dollar sponsorship of NRP Grand Champion &
Classic Trailer people want to do the same. Cooke won the trailer in
98,sold it 3 seconds after they gave it to him in front of the reps
and everyone. They didn't like it one bit. Now this all happens I
quess we'll have to wait and see.
One of the accused supposedly went to
see a lawyer and was told that NRP is private property. If they were
not allowed on it, to stay the hell away, but if another track has no
reason to ban them and does they could go after NRP for slander.
Personally I dont know how much of this is true. but thats the scoop
on the web.Well that's all for now. check back later
Bader's re: cheating @ Norwalk,
"We did suspend 12 racers whose names were
NOT announced at the banquet. We won't release a list because of
legal issues. The important thing is that those racers know who they
are and we know who they are.
Better than that, we are much more educated on
what to look for when checking for cheating! Education is going to
continue to be the key in maintaining a level playing field since we
all know
1. Cheating does exist
2. Cheating will continue
3. Cheating will become more sophisticated
Our promise to our customers is that we will do
our best to educate ourselves, our staff, our racers, other
promoters, & other racers about these methods.
We didn't build these devices, we didn't (and
don't) sell them, we don't support their existence and we sure don't
want them around! This whole issue has been a real
'sap & time sucker' for us. We resolved it
the best way we knew.
For 2000 - our point fund is paying $10,000 to
win in Super Pro AND Pro. Check the News board to see what those
further back in line are receiving as part of the Summit 50Grand Slam...
We have so much more going on at Norwalk than this cheating issue....
